The Centre for Financial Inclusion at Accion defines financial inclusion as:
“A state in which everyone who can use them has access to a full suite of quality financial services, provided at affordable prices, in a convenient manner, with respect and dignity. Financial services are delivered by a range of providers, in a stable, competitive market to financially capable clients.”
The definition above does not mention the word “bank “as it is an accepted reality that members of the population that are financially excluded are usually not in a position to afford a bank account with its inherent banking fees. This therefore implies that there is room for everyone to provide innovative product offerings that will cater specifically to this segment.
