| What does the Development Programmes department do? |
|
1. International Executive Development Programme (IEDP)
The BANKSETA’s International Executive Development programme (IEDP) is designed to complement the existing Executive Development Programmes implemented by employers in the banking and microfinance sector.
This fully funded programme provides an international perspective to the development of high potential senior managers. The programme creates the opportunity to engage in a learning development opportunity, where time is spent with senior financial services executives as well as on formal learning at business schools operating in the host country.
Participants have the opportunity to interact with other financial organisations and businesses while researching and developing a business case topic for presentation to a panel drawn from senior executives within South African financial services organisations.
Key beneficiary, industry and BANKSETA outcomes:
- Increased knowledge and skills in performing strategic roles in the banking arena and insights gained into what is happening in the industry locally and internationally
- Integration of views of business functioning – helping to uncover opportunities for collaboration and to standardise practices
- Competence built in managing and leading people – especially in the areas of personal mastery, leadership skills and change management
- Enhanced performance through knowledge of best practice and benchmarking against top local and international banking institutions
- Development of networks across businesses and functions to facilitate collaboration now and in the future
- Added value to businesses through the completion of a challenging ‘action learning project’
2. Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Programmes
The programme is directed at funding industry-related Doctoral and Post-Doctoral tuition at Higher Education Training (HET) Institutions once research proposals have been accepted.
The target audience for this programme includes Researchers at HETs and professionals in the sector.
Key beneficiary, industry and BANKSETA outcomes:
- Satisfying the increased demand and continued uptake of sector employees, researchers and academics to embark on research pertinent to the broader banking and microfinance sector
- Feasibility / Sustainability
- Contributing to the body of knowledge that will ultimately inform strategy in the banking and microfinance banking sector
3. Junior and Middle Management Programme (JaMM)
Launched in May 2008, the BANKSETA’s Junior and Middle Management (JAMM) Programme has proved a resounding success. One hundred and thirty one candidates have recently graduated from Phase II of the Programme, bringing the total number of candidates, who have graduated to date, to 196.
Graduations were held in four provinces: 55 candidates graduated in Gauteng, 26 in KwaZulu-Natal, 17 in the Eastern Cape, 8 in the Free State and 27 in the Western Cape.
It is interesting to note that 80 (61%) of the candidates on the programme are women. Will we see more female CEOs in the banking sector in the future?
