National Credit Regulator |
The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established as the regulator under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (the Act) and is responsible for the regulation of the South African credit industry. It is tasked with carrying outx education, research, policy development, registration of industry participants, investigation of complaints, and ensuring enforcement of the Act.
The Act requires the Regulator to promote the development of an accessible credit market, particularly to address the needs of historically disadvantaged persons, low income persons, and remote, isolated or low density communities.The NCR is also tasked with the registration of credit providers,credit bureaux and Debt Counselors; and enforcement of compliance with the Act.

Centre for Microfinance |
The Centre was established in April 2004 and is housed in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria. Its vision is to be a “Centre of Excellence in training and research in microfinance in the Region”. It fulfils three core functions: (1) education; (2) research; and (3) the dissemination of information. It is the only institution that provides university accredited certificate courses in Microfinance. It aims to provide SMEs with quality training in the area of microfinance through its Certificate Programmes in Microfinance and Microfinance Management. |
