Introduction to Skills Development
Through the skills development act of 1998, the BANKSETA has as one of its mandates to support skills development in order to grow the current and future skills in the banking sector. The act and the skills development regulations provide guidelines to fulfill this mandate.
One of the responsibilities of the skills development department is to undertake research and compile the sector skills plan for the banking sector.
The approach that the BANKSETA has adopted is to facilitate and enable skills development in the sector rather than being authoritative.
The BANKSETA through the skills development department co-ordinates the support by encouraging constituent registered employers submit mandatory grant reports (workplace skills plans and implementation reports) as per the skills development act and skills development levies act. In this way constituent organizations participate in the skills development programme of the SETA by qualifying for mandatory and discretionary grants.

The skills development department at BANKSETA prioritises maintaining the relationships with current constituent members and is keen to establish new relationships with potential constituent employers with a view to provide long lasting support and guidance.
