| GENERIC ASSESSMENT GUIDES |
|
In promoting the NQF and the notion of life long learning, staff
development and assessment against unit standards for current learning
as well as for the recognition of prior learning (RPL) are important in
all organisations whether large or small.
The banking and micro-finance sector recognises the need for cross-sectoral
assessment that is consistent and equitable. One of the aims when
developing the generic assessment tools was to mitigate the risks
associated with assessment by developing a standard approach, and to
allow all organisations access to the same standard of materials, and
potentially to reach similar standards of staff competence.
Using the template developed during the FAIS project as the agreed
format, the generic assessment guides available have been developed by
the sector for the use of the sector. The contribution made by all
participants is gratefully acknowledged here.
Providers and employers assessing employees against unit standards are
encouraged to use these generic tools but should note that a degree of
organisation-specific customisation may be required. Please send any
comments you may have about improving the assessment guides to either
Daphne (DaphneH@bankseta.org.za) or Caroline (CarolineK@bankseta.org.za).
Assessment should be administered by registered workplace assessors and
moderated by registered moderators in a controlled manner to ensure that
the assessment and certification of competence is reliable and valid,
and that accurate learner records are appropriately kept. All
assessments must take place in the manner prescribed by the rules
governing workplace assessment. A comprehensive guide to this effect is
available from the SAQA website:
www.saqa.org.za. Organisations can also
access information from the BANKSETA website:
www.bankseta.org.za.
Should assessment performance fall short of the organisation's
requirements, the learner should be able to repeat certain activities
until such time as competence is achieved. It is recommended that
learners should have access to support from both Subject Matter Experts
and Learning and Development Specialists in this process.
It is extremely important that learner records of assessment are kept.
These records are the responsibility of the organisation using the
materials. Learner records should be designed in such a manner that they
provides proof of achievement that satisfies the requirements of the
bank, training provider, BANKSETA and National Learner Record Database.
Organisations are required to lodge learner achievements with the
BANKSETA ETQA, who in turn submits the learner records to the National
Learner Record Database.
As more generic assessment guides are developed they will added to this
list. The assessment guides will be revised as and when the relevant
unit standards are reviewed and revised.
The 'model answers' will not form part of the package but can be
accessed by registered assessors and accredited providers via the
BANKSETA call centre. The call centre will require your ID before
supplying the information and will track all users of this service. You
can contact the call centre at 086102 0002.

| Customisation for Use |
|
Customisation for the purposes of this document refers to any changes
and/or adaptations to the material provided to render the material more
relevant to a particular learner or to a particular population of
learners.
Further customisation of the materials for use within specific
organisations may be required, and the right to customise them is
extended to recipient organisations, provided such customisation is
undertaken in conformance with the abovementioned provisions relating to
copyright - as noted, materials derived via customisation of the
original materials are also subject to the copyright restrictions noted
above.
Customisation is undertaken at the sole risk of the recipient
organisations. It is important that the integrity of the process whereby
the learning outcomes are achieved is not compromised through changes to
the materials.
The following notes on customisation options are included without
prejudice to anything stipulated elsewhere in this document: |
