General Information
The Education and Training Quality Assurance Body of the BANKSETA was accredited by SAQA in December 2000 for the purpose of monitoring and auditing achievements in the banking sector.
The ETQA Regulations (1998) clearly define the functions of Education and Training Quality Assurance Bodies (Click here to view the SAQA Regulations) One of these functions is the accreditation of education and training providers.
It is important to note, however, that in terms of the Act and Regulations, the BANKSETA ETQA can accredit only those single-purpose providers of education and training whose primary focus is banking although the multi-disciplinary nature of banking means that some training covers other fields such as administration, accounting and management. Where the secondary focus is in fields related to banking, the only requirement is that the BANKSETA ETQA must enter into a memorandum of understanding with the appropriate ETQA. Providers whose primary focus is not banking, but in fields related to banking, must be accredited by the relevant ETQA and cannot be accredited by the BANKSETA ETQA. The SAQA rule is 'one provider, one ETQA' so once a provider has been accredited, that accreditation is valid across all sectors.
